SINGAPORE: Malaysia and Singapore will strengthen their cooperation in multiple security matters, including cyber security.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said cyber security had become a global issue, and thus it would be timely for both countries to increase cooperation in the matter.

“We also discussed the need for clear laws on cyber security. We hope that the laws can function as guidelines to further curb instances of cyber crimes,” he said in a statement after attending a closed-door discussion on global law enforcement efforts against cyber crime, chaired by Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean yesterday.

He also attended the launch of the Interpol Global Complex For Innovation.

Those who attended the event included representatives from Russia, the United States, Argentina, Austria, Germany, Kuwait, Myanmar, Vietnam and New Zealand.

Dr Ahmad Zahid also paid a courtesy call on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during his working visit to the republic.

“We discussed security cooperation between the countries.”

The Home Minister also visited the Singaporean Police Operation Control Centre, Singaporean Prisons Department and the country’s Home Ministry.
