PORT DICKSON, Feb 7 (Bernama) – The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is monitoring those suspected of participating in the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group by following their activities in recruitment, financing and fundraising.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said PDRM cooperates with neighbouring countries Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines.
“It is done under the coordination of the IGP. We want to make the ASEAN region safe and not a supplier of terrorists,” he told a press conference after closing the Internal Security Round Table Discussion, here Saturday.
Also present are the Home Ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Alwi Ibrahim and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
Zahid said PDRM also monitor their network in the social media involved in recruiting and sending IS supporters to Syria and Iraq.
“Whatever they post or try to do via the social media is monitored and traced. We will arrest then those involved.
“We will not tolerate this because IS is not the true face of Islam. Those arrested for supporting IS regretted their action and regarded the situation on the ground as different from what was promised.
“They realised that there is no short cut to heaven. We arrested IS supporters to prevent them from doing the same in our country.”
Zahid said PDRM and the Home Ministry are responsible for protecting the safety of all Malaysians.
