KUALA LUMPUR: Action is imminent against proponents of Sabah’s secession from Malaysia, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Home Minister said the police have identified those who are pushing for it.
“Sure we have identified them. You just wait, we will announce,” Zahid told a press conference after launching the Segambut Umno Division meeting on Monday.
He was responding to Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement that those who pushed for Sabah’s secession from the federation could face stern action.
Muhyiddin also warned that the Government would not tolerate those who went to the United Nations, questioning Sabah’s position.
Muhyiddin also said that suggesting that Sabah seceded from Malaysia amounted to treason.
Over in KOTA KINABALU, Bernama reported that Sabah community development and consumer affairs minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid expressed support for stern action to be taken against the proponents for Sabah’s secession from Malaysia.
He said such action was necessary as the struggle for the country’s independence had not been easy and was a long and difficult process.
“There have been many developments since then; many towns have been built by our leaders.
“It was the aspiration of our past leaders including Malaysia’s Father of Independence to see the nation prosper as it has today,” she told reporters after launching a state-level programme here Monday.
Jainab also said Japan’s culture of respecting one another should be emulated.
On Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stressed that the Government would not heed the small but vociferous group that had been calling for Sabah’s secession from Malaysia.
