BERNAMA – Police Monitor Militants Alleged To Be From Malaysia – Ahmad Zahid

PUTRAJAYA, June 27 (Bernama) — The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have always monitored the movement of militants alleged to be from Malaysia through various sources and intelligence information.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said it was a continuous effort to ensure that Malaysia would not be deemed as a terrorist nest.

“The enforcement of existing laws and monitoring activity carried out by the police on militants from Malaysia are continuous efforts done through intelligence process or by gathering information from social media, Aseanapol, Interpol and authorities from neighbouring countries which claimed to have accepted the militants.”

He said this to reporters after opening the National Wakaf Al Quran 2014 organised by the Home Ministry here today.

The minister also called on the public to gain greater understanding on the true meaning of ‘jihad’ before joining any groups that recruit militants.

“We know such things happen in Indonesia like they have a regional group from southern Philippine or southern Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

“Those who want to commit ‘jihad’ must understand the true meaning of the word and not simply being suicidal or agreeing to be suicide bombers,” he said.

In another development, Ahmad Zahid also called the public with information about any child abduction attempts to lodge immediate reports to the police.

“The police have always monitored the crime, which usually committed by certain individuals for money,” he added.
