KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today conferred the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN) medals to 104 former police officers who served during the emergency.
The ceremony for the awarding of the PJPN, which was held for the first time in the peninsula, was also witnessed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar at the Banquet Hall of the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol), here, today.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with the 207th Police Day Memorial today.
The medals were presented to them in appreciation of their contributions during the emergency from July 12, 1948 to July 31, 1960 and the Communist Insurgency from June 17, 1968 to Dec 2, 1989.
The award of the medal was also in recognition of those who were killed in defending the nation in Sabah and Sarawak during the emergency from 1962 to Oct 17, 1990. – Bernama
